Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann

Ceoltoiri

On October 14th, 1951, at Árus Ceannt, Thomas Street, Dublin, the first standing Committee of Cumann Ceoltóirí na hÉireann was elected. At a meeting in St. Mary’s Hall, Mullingar, on January 6th, 1952, the title of the organisation was changed from Cumann Ceoltóirí na hÉireann to Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann.
Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann has one of the most valuable national archives of traditional music and song in the country. This collection, housed at Cultúrlann na hÉireann, contains over 4000 hours of edited priceless material, which is being added to regularly. Much of this material was collected over the years by An Timire Ceoil, Séamus MacMathúna. It reflects the many talents and styles of the various regions of the country and the Irish community abroad.

Irish Showbands

Big Tom & The Mainliners

This is website that is dedicated to the Irish showbands and much much more! The term “Irish showband” generally refers to a particular type of musical act popular in Ireland in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Irish Showbands like the Clipper Carlton, the Dixies, the Royal, and hundreds more traveled the length and breadth of Ireland playing to packed houses every night. They include these showbands in our tribute, but they also feature much more.
